Responsibilities:
• Reading and interpretation of safety related documentation.
• Perform and administer safety, health and environmental audits and inspections.
• Liaison with on-site contractors to ensure their compliance with safety regulations and safety standards, including basic safety induction training.
• Assist with investigations of incidents and participate in DMRE enquiries and SHE audits.
• Participate in the initiation and propagation of SHE awareness programs.
• Conduct Health and Safety induction and training.
• Identify and eliminate/minimize exposure to potential hazards.
• Identify and report on any non-conformances with Root Cause analysis.
• Audit work areas against legal requirement.
• Ensure that all the requirements of the mine health and safety act, OHS act, and statutory requirements are met on sites.
• Ensure that SHE representative inspections are carried out so that risks are identified and that the necessary risk management is conducted.
• Investigate accidents and incidents.
• Ensure that the necessary documentation and administration of health and safety matters are accurate and up to date.
• Ensures adherence to SHE requirements by all employees on site.
• Facilitate SHE related meetings and safety awareness campaigns.
Requirements:
• Relevant qualification in Safety Management / SAMTRAC or similar.
• Relevant experience as a Safety Officer of which at least 2 years should be within the mining or production sector.
• Knowledge of Mine, Health and Safety Act will be advantageous.
• Valid Code B drivers license.
• Medically fit.
• Hands-on, practical and comfortable with working in an industrial environment.
• Strong administrative skills with a willingness to read and compile large amounts of SHE related documents.
